Happy Holidays from The XOG!

Here's wishing you a terrific holiday season.
That's where the fun is
"Blinded by the light...
...Just trying to make it to the night."
Manfred Mann
No thinking required this month. Instead, just enjoy the holiday season! As always, put on your headphones and turn up the volume!
Beating a dead horse

Your XOG Editor has spent the past ten years beating a dead RWOL horse and quite frankly, my arm is tired and the horse is still dead. Therefore, starting in 2012, your XOG Editor will adopt a new philosophy and slogan, I just haven't decided what it will be yet...
Maybe I'll come up with something new and original, like, "what, me worry?"
What?
Well, since that saying is already taken, maybe I could combine the best of other great sayings. If I combined, "What, me worry?" with "Don't worry, be happy," it would result in the following:
"Don't worry, go boating!"
Hmmmm. I kind of like it. That might just become the XOG's new 2012 slogan.
Don't worry, go boating!

Twisted Liquid Marine (TLM) in Lake Havasu will customize a mini speedboats for you at an unbelievably great price. We all know we can't buy happiness or love, but we can buy a boat. If we're out on the river (A) boating (B) in one of these things, we're not worrying (C)! AB≠C. Sounds like a great new philosophy to me. IRL in Action

(DSM) Social anxiety?
or
(IRL) A successful Comfortably Numb party?
Let's just call it what it is in real language.
Why?
In special education we don't know why the child isn't reading so we just [give up and] call it a learning disability.
But we know why Stewie has a football head.
TBI explains why a child can't read; LD doesn't.
Don't worry, why not go boating?
I told you this would happen...

You tell me the lines don't match?
It doesn't look right?
You just can't catch the meaning?
What's the use of it, what's the reason?
You tell me it's out of season for rainbow colored mallard ducks?
Well, I think your opinion sucks.
Miss Diagnosis
On one hand there are those (special educators, clinicians, big pharma, and others) who [mis]diagnose and treat; they make a lot of money to do so. Then there are those (advocates, agencies, lobbyists, big pharma, and others) who make a lot of money when someone is [mis]diagnosed and treated. There is a lot of money to be made. Then there are those like me, who recommend people quit [mis]diagnosing humans with invented conditions. But where's the money in that? There's no money there. I think it's gonna' be a long, long time before [mis]diagnosing to make money stops.
Happy Holidays!
Miss D
I think it's gonna' be a long, long time.
"All the science I don't understand.
It's just my job five days a week."
Elton John/Bernie Taupin, 1972

Any opinions expressed in The XOG are opinions only and are not necessarily approved or endorsed by, um, anyone else, including the XOG Editor. On the other hand, any facts expressed or implied are indeed, facts. Just as is true for everything else in this world, you get to decide what is opinion, what is fact, what is research based, and if and how they may or may not all fit together. Please note that just because something is research based doesn't necessarily make it a fact; and not all facts are research based. Some opinions are facts and research based. Some opinions are not facts, yet are still research based. Just because something is research based does not necessarily make it a fact or ethical. Some facts are facts for some but not for others; the same concept holds true for opinions and research. The same can be said for humor, satire, parody, and serious statements. Some opinions are just opinions. Ultimately, free speech is protected by the first amendment and one thing is always certain... Everything Is.

The XOG's 2011 Holiday Issue would not be complete without addressing and answering the most basic of all holiday questions:
"Do you want to start a ------- war?"
Green Day
No. The XOG Editor wants to go boating.
Make waves, not war.
All we have is now...
